The setting

Introduction

Modern-day Miami, Florida, USA.

The influence of the seven deadly sins has long since gained the upper hand on humanity, and the concept of virtues is merely perverted into serving one's own agenda. At the same time, the six archangels' hands are tied, lest they risk destroying another realm in a battle between two biblical forces. Both sides must find alternative ways to win over human souls and secure their home realm's supremacy in an eternal battle, even if no one really understands why. What's worse, the world's original creator—better known as God—has vanished without a trace, leaving behind impenetrable silence and crippling uncertainty.

With Heaven's supremacy in danger for the first time in history, Earth's future seems bleak. What will become of humankind if evil gets unleashed at its full potential? Does free will really exist, or are humans doomed to give in to vices and, thus, eternal damnation? What will become of Earth if all its residents are corrupted? Do humans even need free will when every angel knows Heaven's victory would finally bring eternal, uncontentious peace? What significance does a single half-breed's influence have compared to the big league players?

When everyone is forced to pick a side between two polar opposites, the middle ground may lead to salvation nobody dares to consider. If the world was meant for mortals, what purpose do supernatural beings even serve? What if there was a way to repel both angels and demons for eternity and reclaim Earth to those it belongs to? What if all humans needed to settle their differences and unite as a species was a common enemy?

What if there is still a paradise, just waiting for someone to take it back? Or is the answer to world peace indisputable tyranny by either side?

What if someone was brave enough to ask:

"Could—and should—God be replaced?"

Now

As the world enters the year 2025, humankind is plagued by several crises and moral tumult: climate change, violent storms, pandemics, and war. Moral corruption tears nations apart, wildfires and heat waves claim countless lives, and capitalism accumulates wealth for those who already have plenty, while the less fortunate are left to make a living by any means necessary. The world hasn't been as divided since World War II, and new threats are discovered daily.

And yet, humans persist—medicine and technology continue evolving, criminals are caught and rehabilitated, social media allows relatives and friends to keep in touch, and most individuals choose peace and respect over violence and oppression. Life is far from perfect and often tested with tragedy, but tenacity and hope keep humanity going. New generations are born, and the young are filled with potential and promise, solving universal, worldwide problems with cutting-edge innovations, acts of unity, and sheer goodwill.

However, Earth is not the only realm—hidden from mortal eyes, both Heaven and Hell are preparing their forces to defeat their opponent once and for all. While their tactics differ, their goal is the same: to ensure their home realm's reign over the mortal world.

Diabolical plans

For the last few decades, Hell has been preparing for Lucifer's return by converting damned souls into new demons and chipping through the divine sigils keeping the Devil imprisoned. Technological advancements have given the deadly sins remarkable tools to spread their influence across the globe but also to step on each other's toes. This has led to skirmishes between siblings and unrest among lower ranks, distracting hellions from their primary mission of freeing their sovereign ruler.

As disorder continues to get in the way of progress, taking over Earth has been postponed time after time. When no one is willing to dismiss their personal pleasure for the sake of another, attempts to cooperate seem futile. A selfless hellion is rarer than water in Hell, so the question is: will the reward for aiding in Lucifer's release make up for the sacrifice of one's time and effort? Or is the Father of Lies going to double-cross his allies again, making it more beneficial to keep him imprisoned?

Perhaps the fear of punishment will be enough to inspire demons to work together despite their natural instincts. Perhaps someone else would be more worthy of Hell's throne. Perhaps it's time to cull the untrustworthy traitors and reclaim the unholy realm for its original residents.

Maybe it's time for a little revolution.

A dire situation

While Hell prepares to unleash its forces on Earth, Heaven is determined to find Lucifer and stop the spreading corruption that taints the holy realm. Uniting under a single leader is proving to be an impossible challenge; as more and more prayers go unanswered, angels are spread thin around the globe. Despite working in perfect unison, the celestials' dwindling numbers are simply not enough to answer their commander's call. Outnumbered and outmatched, casualties are starting to pile up, weakening the already exhausted lines of defense.

Meanwhile, the archangels are almost as absent as God, appearing only to quench and undo whatever chaos the sins have left behind. With no superior authority giving them explicit orders, angels are left to make their own decisions and act autonomously. This sudden independence—a concept deemed dangerous and thus condemned—has led to groups of rogue celestials taking matters into their own hands and turning into vigilantes. Those that await their creator's return are admired and pitied for their unwavering faith, their pleas met with nothing but silence.

With two realms in crisis and their heavenly Father gone, angels have no choice but to upkeep the fragile peace and pray for a miracle…

Or, perhaps, a hero.
