Our genre falls somewhere between mythic and urban fantasy by blending science, religious literature, and plain fiction to form our lore. While we haven't completely reimagined the world or created a universe comparable to George R. R. Martin's and J. R. R. Tolkien's work, the server's lore is based on some changes to both history and the world as we know it.
This is due to some of the server's themes, including detailed violence, mental illnesses, trauma, self-harm, and theological themes.

Take your time reading about how we portray the different species, familiarize yourself with the setting, and see if it sparks your inspiration.

Welcome to Creatio ex Nihilo's Wiki!

Creatio ex Nihilo, casually CEN or Nihilo, is a text-based role-playing game for mature writers. The setting takes place in modern day Miami, Florida, riddled with supernatural beings walking among mortals. The fictional world reflects most real life events, but leaves currently living or recently deceased people out of it, allowing presidential and other influential seats of power to be filled with original characters.

While the actual writing and communicating happens on the Discord server, this Wiki is used as the center of all things related to role-play. At first, the amount of information may seem intimidating, but most of the lore can safely be ignored until a scene or a character requires knowledge of a particular piece.

Take your time familiarizing yourself with the world, its residents, and everything else needed to dive into character creation. If you have any questions, check the FAQ, and if your question is still unanswered, join the server and ping the @Staff.

We expect all our members to be at least 21-years-old when joining the server.
This is due to some of the server's themes, including detailed violence, mental illnesses, trauma, self-harm, and theological themes.

The setting

The influence of the seven Deadly Sins has long since gained the upper hand on humanity, and the concept of virtues is merely perverted into serving one's own agenda. At the same time, the six Archangels' hands are tied, lest they risk destroying another realm in a battle between two biblical forces. Both sides must find alternative ways to win over human souls and secure their home realm's supremacy in an eternal battle, even if no one really understands why. What's worse, the world's original creator—better known as God—has vanished without a trace, leaving behind impenetrable silence and crippling uncertainty.

With Heaven's supremacy in danger for the first time in history, Earth's future seems bleak. What will become of humankind if evil gets unleashed at its full potential? Does free will really exist, or are humans doomed to give in to vices and, thus, eternal damnation? What will become of Earth if all its residents are corrupted? Do humans even need free will when every angel knows Heaven's victory would finally bring eternal, uncontentious peace? What significance does a single half-breed's influence have compared to the big league players?

When everyone is forced to pick a side between two polar opposites, the middle ground may lead to salvation nobody dares to consider. If the world was meant for mortals, what purpose do supernatural beings even serve? What if there was a way to repel both angels and demons for eternity and reclaim Earth to those it belongs to? What if all humans needed to settle their differences and unite as a species was a common enemy? What if there is still a paradise, just waiting for someone to take it back? Or is the answer to world peace indisputable tyranny by either side?

What if someone was brave enough to ask:

"Could—and should—God be replaced?"
